Welcome Barack Obama!

Congratulations Americans! This is really a history-making point for America and the entire world. Who can deny it? A black man is now the American president-elect, not many years far from the racial discrimination era when “Only for Whites” or similar signs were common and I believe such a sense of “white power” is not still uncommon. I remember a few months ago when many analysts said US is not ready for a black president. Now we can strongly say: you are wrong, you are not aware of what is in people’s mind.
Have you ever heard of non-Americans celebrating any other president such as Bush who, many think, placed the US in a disgraceful position in the eyes of people around the world, and if there was not a matter of economy, it would be much more isolated than even my own country Iran.
I am not an American and I have never visited America but while watching Jessie Jackson shedding tears along with others, black and white, and hearing Obama speaking that patriotically, I couldn’t stop my sympathy with his audience.
He talked about what Americans have honorably accomplished through their short history. That’s true. He told nothing about all those misdoings we all feel ashamed of the United States for, but I am sure he is the one who appreciates that.
I congratulate you because we Iranians well understand the real value of a president who understands and who does not tell lies when he can’t tell the truth. A president who may not be able to do much for us but we could still be proud of. We learned this quite late when drowning in the swamp of Ahmadinejad.
Maybe Obama would not be able to change as many things as he promised through his campaign and I’m hardly optimistic whether he would be good enough for this troubled Iran or not, however I think, you esteemed Americans and the rest of the world will not feel embarrassed of him at the end of the day. I hope so and pray for.
